You may remember several weeks ago when I expressed the need for GoYo to begin expanding our staff for the summer season. It is truly my pleasure to introduce Juliette Kopp. When I met and began to get to know Juliette I realized I had found a knowledgeable, responsible, up-and-coming yoga teacher. Here is more about Juliette in her words:
Hi yogis! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Juliette and I’m the newest member of the GoYo team. I received my 200 hour yoga certification at Spark Yoga in Arlington, VA which was rooted in Baptiste’s power flow, vinyasa and preliminary training in prenatal. When I’m not on my mat, I can be found doing downward dogs across the globe and writing about my experiences on my blog at Namastay Traveling.
Having been an avid athlete through most of college, I struggled to find a new way to exercise once I entered my adult years. While I enjoyed the occasional team sport, I felt that I was losing a lot of the flexibility and balance that I had when I was younger. Cue my first vinyasa class. While I initially started attending yoga classes for the workout, it eventually turned into a way of life as each class presented new challenges I strived to overcome.
Specifically, I remember spending weeks and weeks attempting to get my body into crow pose. I’d use all my strength to try and lift my body off the ground, only to end up face planting on the pillow in front of me. I would work on performing extra pushups and planks to build up my shoulders and arms to support my weight. It wasn’t until my yoga teacher told me to stop using my strength, but rather focus on merely shifting my body forward that I finally found stillness off the ground. I didn’t need to change my body to find crow pose, I needed to change how I approached crow pose to fit my body. This was a particular moment that not only improved my yoga practice, but also altered how I viewed my life. Sometimes we try to fix ourselves to fit a pose, when really we fix the pose to fit ourselves.
Using this mentality, I lead my yoga classes to meet you where you are while providing the support and positivity to push past the limits we unintentionally set for ourselves. Sometimes it’s as simple as approaching a challenge from a new angle or taking a step back and starting from square one. My classes are structured with unique vinyasa flows paired with rhythmic breathing that help build strength, flexibility and balance, while still calming the body and releasing built up tension. See you on the mat soon!
